Simone Arianne Biles (/sI’moUn ‘baI@lz14 March 1997 [4]) is an American artistic gymnast. Shannon Miller holds the record for the most Olympic medals awarded by an American gymnast, with seven. She is also the equal ninth overall. Biles is widely believed to be the best gymnast of all time, having won 25 World Championship medals. [5] In 2022, Biles was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Joe Biden. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Biles won individual gold medals in the vault, all-around, and floor; bronze on balance beam and gold with the United States team, dubbed the "Final Five".At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, where Biles was predicted to take home at most four of the six gold medals. She was forced to withdraw from the majority of the contest due to struggles with "the twisties" which is an intermittent loss of air balance. As part of the US team she won a medal on balance beam and a silver. The judges were impressed with her partial withdrawal, her mental and physical fitness focus, endurance and determination to remain secure. She's also an all-around champion five times over, World all-around champion (2013-2015, 2018-2019) as well as a five-time World floor exercise champion (2013-2015 and 2018-2019) Three-time World champion on balance beam (2014-2015 2019, 2019), two-time World vault champion (2018-2019) A seven-time United States national all-around champion (2013-2016 and 2018-2019 until 2021), and a member of the gold-medal winning American teams at the 2014, 2015 2018, and 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She also is an World silver medalist in balance beam (2013 and 2014) and balance beam (2013 and 2014), as well as three-time World bronze medalist in vault (2015 2013, 2013 and 2018 on uneven bars). Biles is the most accomplished gymnast (25) and also the world's most gold-medalized (19). She has just surpassed Vitaly Scherbo, who holds the record for 23 World medals. Biles was born on the 14th of March 1997, in Columbus, Ohio, the third of four siblings.Her birth mother, Shanon Biles, was not able to take care of Simone and her three other children , Adria, Ashley, and Tevin. All four children were in and out of foster care. In 2000, Biles' maternal grandfather, Ron Biles, and his second wife, Nellie Cayetano Biles,began taking care of Shanon's children in the north Houston suburb of Spring, Texas, after finding out that his grandchildren been placed in foster care. In 2003, the Biles family had officially adopted Simone and her younger sister Adria. Ron's sister Shanon, Shanon’s aunt Harriet adopted their two most eldest children.
